And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. (Ezekiel 36:26, 27 NLT)
How many of you have stony, stubborn hearts? You know what’s best for you but you take that other road far too often. The one that seems easier or straighter. The one that’s all too familiar. If you allow Him to, the Spirit will purify your heart in such a way that you won’t even have to think twice about that other road. He will show you truth. He will light your path.
But this is a choice. None of us can go through the process of knowing God’s truth or being set apart (also known as sanctification) without us being willing. If we allow it, each day we will draw closer to the ways of the Spirit, ridding ourselves of all of those old choices. Eventually it becomes easier and our hearts are then inclined toward His will. Once our heart is where it should be, our lives will then follow in pursuit of what He has to give.
And to think…that it all starts with a choice!
